Antique chevalerie apparaissant dès 1172 sur les confins du Velay et du Forez et dans le mandement de St-Bonnet-le-Château. Pierre est mentionné dans une transaction de 1182, passée entre Robert IV, comte d'Auvergne et Pierre, abbé de St-Michel de Cluse en Piémont. Lambert rendit hommage en 1291 de son fief de St-Bonnet, hommage que renouvela en 1333 Pochon. Philippe percevait des rentes nobles aux environs de Retournac et de Vissac en 1311. Pons vivait 1328; Berauden 1343 et Bertrand en 1362. En 1412, Dalmace de la Faye, sur le point de mourir sans laisser de postérité, légua par testament à ses cousins-germains: Pons et Guillaume sa seigneurie du Fieu. Peu de temps après et vers le milieu du XVème siècle, une branche de cette maison fut substituée aux premiers seigneuries de Prunet dont elle reprit le nom et les armes. Inscrite avec Jean à l'Armorial manuscrit de 1450. Des hommes d'armes; un bailli et un capitaine-châtelain de St-Paulien et de St-Geneys.
