Tal casato, anticamente detto "Chellini", trasse l'attuale cognominizzazione da Boccaccio Chellini, padre del celeberrimo Giovanni, il quale, nel 1322, fu tra i Priori di Firenze, nel 1345, Maestro di Zecca e, nel 1347, Console dell'Annona. La famiglia levò per arme. D'oro, alla testa d'orso di nero; con la bordura inchiavata d'oro e d'azzurro. Alias. D'azzurro, alla scala di quattro pioli posta in banda d'oro. Altro ramo. Nobile famiglia di Fano, di cui si ricordano Francesco e Camillo, distintisi negli studi. Avevano un palazzo in Piazza delle Erbe ed un altro in Via de' Pili, ove sorgeva il Cinema Boccaccio, nei pressi di Santa Maria Nuova. Altro ramo.
