Famiglia fondata in Bretagna da diversi secoli che ha prodotto una serie di personaggi illustri. Ci incontriamo con questo nome: Pierre, procuratore generale del Gran Consiglio, nobilitato nel 1493 per essersi distinto nella battaglia di Fornoue, sposa Jeanne Fumée, figlia di Adamo, cancelliere di Francia; Carlo, suo nipote, maestro delle richieste della regina Maria d'Inghilterra, terza moglie di Luigi XII, nel 1514, si stabilì in Bretagna dove si sposò: Gillette de la Moussaye; Jeanne de Quélen, signora di Villebouquaye; François, tenente generale dell'artiglieria francese, ucciso nell'assedio di Arras nel 1640; tre consiglieri in parlamento dal 1712 al 1763; un abate di Saint-Aubin-des-Bois nel 1787. Il ramo di Villebouquaye è ora estinto nel Barbier de Lescouët; la filiale di Courpoy registrò i suoi titoli con il Sovrano Consiglio di Martinica nel 1777.
