Família antiga e nobre originária de Modena que se espalhou, ao longo dos séculos, por várias regiões da Itália. O ramo original de Modena está extinto, enquanto os ramos da família extensa florescem com honra. O pesquisador e historiador Gozzadini em seu "Das torres gentias de Bolonha e das famílias nobres a que primeiro pertenceram", impresso em Bolonha por Zannichelli em 1875. Sujeita mais do que qualquer outra às vicissitudes dos tempos foi a família atual , que como faccionista dos irados partidos Guelfos e Gibelinos foi arruinado, como os outros semelhantes a ele, que ora dentro, ora fora das cidades emilianas tiveram que ser comemorados, de acordo com os interesses que cooperaram para aquele partido, como será ser mostrado abaixo. Segundo o costume antigo, este era denominado com o nome do local, visto que as Casas não estavam em uso na época, as famílias que possuíam recebiam o nome
