Very ancient and noble Italian family, among the most influential of the Marquisate of Crotone and the Kingdom of Naples, known as Campitelli or Campitello, that has worldwide spread, over the centuries. It has been noble in the cities of Trani, Crotone and Catanzaro although originally from Tramonti. Its representatives have been lords of Melissa since the time of King Ferdinand I of Naples. On 22 April 1485, in fact, the aforementioned king sold the fiefdom of Melissa for three thousand ducats to the royal treasurer and councilor for Calabria Vinceslao Campitelli, husband of Lucia Contestabile, daughter of the baron of Settingiano. Vinceslao, founder of the house, became the first baron of Melissa (1485-1493).
