Antica ed assai nobile casata italiana, di chiara ed avita virtù. Originaria della Lombardia, nel corso dei secoli si è propagata anche in altre regioni, con importanti insediamenti in Abruzzo e nelle Puglie. Leggenda vuole che essa discenda da Rangoberto, barone di Teodorico e re dei Goti e che, nel 1036, abbia avuto da Arrigo III l’investitura di Capriolo, donde poi ebbe il nome. Sicuramente ebbe essa culla in Capriolo, borgo sulla sinistra dell'Oglio in territorio bresciano, da donde, nel 1265, i fratelli Giovanni, Oreste e Lottarigo si trasferirono a Brescia. I Caprioli figurano nella Matricola Malatestiana del 1406, come pure tra i firmatari del patto con Venezia nel 1426. Patrizi originari, erano nel Consiglio cittadino prima della "serrata" del 1488. Sul calare del XV secolo, da Bartolomeo Caprioli e dalla nobile Benvenuta Rovati, nacquero Gerolamo e Francesco: il primo fu nominato cavaliere nel 1509 da re Luigi XII di
