Alte und sehr edle italienische Abstammung, von klarer und überlieferter Tugend. Ursprünglich aus der Lombardei stammend, hat es sich im Laufe der Jahrhunderte auch in andere Regionen ausgebreitet, mit bedeutenden Siedlungen in den Abruzzen und Apulien. Der Legende nach stammt es von Rangoberto, Baron von Theoderich und König der Goten, ab und erhielt 1036 von Arrigo III. die Belehnung von Capriolo, daher der Name. Ihre Wiege hatte sie sicherlich in Capriolo, einem Dorf links des Oglio in der Gegend von Brescia, von wo aus im Jahr 1265 die Brüder Giovanni, Oreste und Lottarigo nach Brescia zogen. Die Capriolis erscheinen in der Matricola Malatesta von 1406 sowie unter den Unterzeichnern des Paktes mit Venedig im Jahr 1426. Ursprüngliche Patrizier, waren sie vor der „Aussperrung“ von 1488 im Stadtrat. Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts, von Bartolomeo Caprioli und die Adligen Benvenuto Rovati, Gerolamo und Francesco wurden geboren: Der erste wurde 1509 von König
