Ancienne famille de Campanie, de noblesse claire et ancestrale, qui est ornée du titre de comte, répartie au cours des siècles dans diverses régions d'Italie. L'origine de ce patronyme, selon les généalogistes faisant autorité, doit être recherchée dans le toponyme homonyme, lui-même dérivé du terme latin « casae hirtae ».
