Famiglia lombarda, di antica e nobile tradizione, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, anteriore al XV secolo, è riconducibile al toponimo Caspano (SO). I primi rilevamenti, di essa, si rinvengono già nel 1500, con uno "Stefano fu Tognij Betoni de Caspano di Grosio", nominato in un atto di vendita di alcuni terreni e, nel 1600, con un Martino Caspanus, sindaco della contrada Viale di Grosio (SO). Famiglia di origine longobarda proveniente dal paese di Cáspano (SO) in Valtellina, il cui etimo potrebbe essere ricondotto al nome personale romano Casperuis. Una delle più importanti famiglie che portano questo cognome è la nobile famiglia Caspani, appartenente al consortile dei capitaneit di Parravicino. Infatti, un ramo dei Parravicini Capitani della Pieve di Incino, di origine longobarda, nel XIII secolo si trasferì nel borgo di Caspano dal quale ne trasse poi il cognome. Tra la fine del XVI
