Ancienne et notable famille piémontaise, d'origine trentine, de vertu claire et ancestrale, répartie au cours des siècles dans diverses régions d'Italie. Selon le moment où il nous est transmis, il appartient à la même prosapia noble trentino-autrichienne des Ceschi, nobles de l'Empire depuis 1325 et chevaliers du même depuis 1605 comme confirmé par 1723 et 1725, dont les nombreuses branches collatérales ont parfois pris noms de famille différents, tels que Cescatti, Cescato ou Ceccato. Les Cescattis semblent bien enracinés dans le territoire piémontais depuis au moins la fin du XVIIe siècle et de plus, selon de précieux souvenirs familiaux, ils ont contracté une parenté avec les comtes de di Refrancore d'Asti. D'autre part, cette famille, au fil des décennies, a toujours réussi à produire une série d'hommes qui ont fait sa renommée, dans la fonction publique, dans les professions libérales et ecclésiastiques et dans le service militaire.
