Ancient and noble Italian family, of clear and ancestral virtue, known as Cillis or de Cillis, that has worldwide spread, over the centuries. It is still today one of the most important noble families in southern Italy. Its members are involved in various fields, including entrepreneurship, politics, culture and religion. Tradition has it that it arrived in the Kingdom of Naples from Spain in May 1503, with Valerio and Francesco de Cillis, following Captain Consalvo Ferdinando de Cordoba, Duke of Newfoundland and Sant'Angelo. Valerio, aforesaid, was appointed "comes stabuli" and "caesarean chamber"; he himself signed the specifications for the fortifications of Capua in 1552. However, already in 1527 the family had moved to Benevento, where it was soon ascribed to the patriciate.
