Il solare primitivo di questo cognome si trovava nella chiesa antistante di Gámiz (di cui prese il nome), del partito giudiziario di Vitoria, ad Álava. Le filiali che passarono a Guipúzcoa si stabilirono nella Valle Real de Léniz. Successivamente fondarono un nuovo lotto nella cosiddetta Torres de Carranzo, nove leghe della città di Burgos, e in seguito agli incidenti della riconquista, si stabilirono in Andalusia.
