O sol primitivo desse sobrenome estava na ante-igreja de Gámiz (cujo nome foi usado), do partido judicial de Vitória, em Álava. As agências que foram para Guipúzcoa se estabeleceram no Valle Real de Léniz. Mais tarde, fundaram um novo lote nas chamadas Torres de Carranzo, a nove léguas da cidade de Burgos e, após os incidentes da reconquista, estabeleceram-se na Andaluzia. O primeiro a passar por essa região foi chamado Mengo de G. e ele foi um dos quinhentos cavaleiros que, por ordem do rei Don Fernando III el Santo, vieram em socorro de Baeza e conquistaram seu Alcazar em 30 de novembro de 1227. Suas armas eles apareceram no famoso arco da igreja de Santa María.
