Alte und edle französische Familie von klarer und angestammter Tugend, die sich im Laufe der Jahrhunderte weltweit verbreitet hat. Der Adel dieser berühmten Linie wird auch durch ihre Präsenz in einigen der wichtigsten europäischen Heraldikwerke bestätigt, darunter: „Armorial Général“ des niederländischen Heraldikers und Genealogen JB Rietstap (12. Mai 1828–24. Dezember 1891), ein monumentales Werk, das die Wappenschilder von mehr als 130.000 europäischen Familien enthält, „Dictionnaire héraldique“ von Denis-François Gastelier de La Tour (1709–17981) und „Armorial Général de l'Anjou“ von Joseph Denais (1851–1916). Zwei Hauptfamilienlinien: eine stammt aus Poitou, die andere aus Anjou. Herren von la Touche-Poupard (Saint-Georges-de-Noisné) seit dem 15. Jahrhundert und später auch Herren von la Faye und anderen Lehen, ein Zweig des Guiteau von Poitou trat im Jahr 1548 den Malteserrittern bei. Viele seiner Vertreter dienten der Krone und waren Knappen, wie zum Beispiel: George Guiteau, Herr von la Touche-Poupard und Ritter, der im späten 15. Jahrhundert florierte;
