Antiga e nobre família alemã, de virtude clara e ancestral, que se espalhou pelo mundo, ao longo dos séculos, com importantes povoações nos Estados Unidos da América. A tradição diz que é originário de Liefland; no entanto, o primeiro expoente de quem temos menção heráldica é um Christian Hinkeldey de Wiesen an der Lühe, perto de Hamburgo, que se estabeleceu pela primeira vez em Nördlingen em 1679. E de facto esta família está heraldicamente registada como patrícia de Nördlingen (Suábia, Baviera) e nobre do Império. George Hinkeldey, filho de Christian, foi diácono de Nördlingen e morreu lá em 1736.
