Come scrive l'illustre araldista Antonino Mango di Casalgerardo nel suo Nobiliario di Sicilia vol.2 il cognome Incardona è in realtà una variazione di Cardona. Nei cognomi meridionali il prefisso In significa spesso: in matrimonio con. Quindi anche Incardona significa: (in matrimonio con) Cardona. Sull’origine di tale famiglia e sulla sua venuta in Sicilia, quanti sono gli autori che di essa parlano, tanti sono i pareri. Noi ci contentiamo di accennare, brevemente, ai membri di essa che occuparono importanti cariche in Sicilia, ed ai feudi da detta famiglia posseduti. Un Antonio fu vicerè di Sicilia nel 1417 e tale eccelsa carica tennero un Giovanni, conte di Prades, nell’anno 1477, ed un Raimondo nell’anno 1507. Un Pietro fu maestro giustiziere del regno, consigliere e camerlengo del re Alfonso, dal quale gli furono concessi, con privilegio del primo dicembre 1444, le terre di Collesano, Caronia, Petralia Superiore ed Inferiore, il feudo di Bilici
