Una familia así apellidada moró en la villa de Cañaveras, del partido judicial de Priego (Cuenca), y a ella perteneció Juan Bautista de L., natural de Cañaveras, que casó con doña Hipólita Sánchez y González, natural de Corral de Almaguer (Toledo), y procrearon a Juan Julián de L. y Sánchez, natural de Madrid, que efectuó su enlace con doña Eugenia de Arizmendi Alegrando y Mosquera, natural del Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz (hija de Juan de Arizmendi y Echevarría, natural de Irún, y de doña Clara María de Alegrando, natural del Puerto de Santa María), naciendo de esa unión Juan Manuel de L. y Arizmendi, natural del Puerto de Santa María y Jefe de Guardias de la Real Armada, que tuvo por esposa a doña Ana María de Ugarte y Trejo, natural de Cádiz (hija de Francisco de Paula Ugarte, natural de Cádiz, y de doña Eugenia Trejo y Vergara, natural de Gribraltar). Fué su hijo Juan Francisco de L. y Ugarte, natural de La Coruña, Brigadier de la Real Armada y Comendador de Casas de Talavera en la Orden de Calatrava, en la que ingresó el 19 de Abril de 1779. El 11 de Noviembre de 1799, ingresó en la Orden de Carlos III.
