Ursprünglich aus Fiesole stammend, hatte sie als Vorfahren einen Portinajo di Folco, der 1187 lebte und dessen Namen ihre Nachkommen hatten. Er gab seinem Land von 1282 bis 1529 14 Priors, von denen der erste Folco di Ricovero war, der Gründer des Krankenhauses von S. Maria Novella, dessen Tochter Beatrice von den Alighieri verewigt wurde.
