Familia muy antigua y noble de Cingoli, originaria y del mismo linaje que la de Gubbio. Sus primeras noticias llegan en el siglo. XI, y en el Archivo de la Catedral de Gubbio se conserva un documento de 1228 firmado por Fisto por el obispo Sant'Ubaldo, que habla de tal Caffarello, que es el progenitor reconocido de la familia Raffaelli. Era el padre de Boso, Raffaello y Onesto. De Rafael surgió el apellido a todos los descendientes de "Raffaelli". Fue padre de Alberigo, alcalde de Forlì en 1220 y famoso gibelino. Guido, de Alberico, fue capitán del pueblo en Gubbio en 1263. Bosone Novello, de Bosone I, nació en Gubbio hacia 1280. Orgulloso gibelino, en 1314 fue exiliado y fue a Arezzo, donde conoció a Dante, el Divino Poeta. , a quien luego acogió en 1318 en su feudo y castillo de "Colmollaro".
