Famille noble, originaire de Bologne, qui dut émigrer de la mère patrie pour rejoindre le parti de Guelph, soutenu par les Geremei, et s'installa à Ravenne en 1270. Giacomo fut vicaire d'Ostasio da Polenta, seigneur de Ravenne, en 1433 ; Ostasio obtenu de l'Imperat. Federico III, en 1468, les titres de comte et chevalier du SRI* ; Sénateur de Lodovic dans sa patrie en 1536. Éteint au XVIIIe siècle en la personne de Pompeo, homme de lettres et grand amateur de l'histoire de son pays. Autre branche. Originaire de Saragosse, amenée en Sicile par un Giammatteo Rais aux services militaires du roi Martino, dont elle obtint la châtellenie de Bruca, et donc le gouvernement d'Augusta. PIerantonio maître rationnel de la Chambre de la Reine en 1420; Gianfilippo serveur de la reine Maria et châtelain de la ville de Noto. *Saint Empire romain germanique, nom officiellement assumé par l'Empire romain d'Occident
