No están de acuerdo los tratadistas que hemos consultado, respecto del origen del apellido A. Algunos opinan que es muy antiguo, que tuvo su primitivo solar en Navarra y que lo trajeron a Castilla varios caballeros de ese linaje que sirvieron al Rey Don Alfonso IX. Otros dicen que algunos caballeros A. acompañaron al Rey Fernando III el Santo a la conquista de Sevilla. Otros afirman, y ésta parece la versión más aceptada, que el apellido A. tuvo su origen en un suceso acaecido durante el sitio de Sevilla por el referido Monarca, pero no antes, y lo explican de la siguiente manera: Tomaba parte en la citada memorable conquista, sirviendo al Rey santo, un caballero de Castilla, natural de Aguilar de Campóo, en la provincia de Palencia, llamado Fortún Sáez. Este caballero, que era muy pequeño de estatura, venía siendo blanco de la mofa de un moro arrogante y esforzado, llamado Hamet Celín, y, cansado de tal burla, desafío al sarraceno a medir el valor de ambos en singular pelea. Aceptó el moro lleno de regocijo, pensando que nada más fácil para él que derrotar al diminuto cristiano; pero éste, a quien las mofas de su enemigo tenían indignado, salió a la pelea pletórico de rencor y rabia, eligiendo para la lucha un terreno en el que había pequeñas lagunas. El duelo fué largo y terrible, pero más diestro el cristiano, logró al fin matar al moro. Cortóle la cabeza y, volviendo a su campo, acudió a presentársela a su Rey. Otra casa muy antigua.
