Cette famille d'origine notariale, de Villeneuve-de-Berg, est connue dès 1364. Devenue très riche, elle conquit une haute situation et forma deux branches importantes; l'une sìéteignit dans les maisons du Bousquet, seigneurs de Montlaur et de Ratte, seigneur de Cambous, à la fin du XVIème siècle. L'autre branche dite des seigneurs de Vallon prit fin, bientôt après vers 1563. En 1464, Charles était bailli du Vivarais d'après le livre sommaire ou abrégé de l'estimation des biens des paroisses et communautés du Vivarais, dressé par Charles, bailli dudit pays. La fortune leur arriva par la charge de receveurs généraux du pays de Vivarais qu'il occupèrent et par les faveurs que leur attirèrent quelques missions importantes que leur confia le Roi et qu'ils menèrent à bien. Ils brillèrent d'un vif éclat pendant cinq a six générations puis s'éteignirent à la fin du XVIème siècle. Ils possèdèrent à Villeneuve-de-Berg trois hôtels dont l'un remarquable passa, en 1730, dans la maison de Barruel, qui le posséda jusqu'en en 1883. cette famille s'allia aux bonnes maisons du Vivarais et posséda plusieurs importantes seigneuries. Le 20 avril 1507, Bertrand Adhémar donna à Jean, seigneur de Vallo, quittance de lods pour les acquisitions qu'il avait faites. ...
