Dans les sources bibliographiques consultées on trouve de nombreuses familles de ce nom qu'il n'est pas possible de rattacher entre elles. On signale toutefois un Raymond de la Roche, possessionné à Coubon en 1309. Il rendit hommage en 1313 de ses fiefs situés dans le mandement de Solignac. Pierre de la Roche était possessionné féodalement, à Coubon, Yssingeaux, St-Hostien et à St-Jean du Monastier en 1319-1327. Pierre, docteur en droit et clerc de l'église du Puy, devint abbé de Doue en 1351. Noble Guillaume son neveu et noble Ruf Bèraud de la Roche rendent hommage des mêmes fiefs que Raymond et Pierre en 1341. Noble Bertrand, chanoine de Brioude (1344-1362), possédait des terres nobles à la Crotte près Cussac et à la Roche près Coubon. A la même famille appartenait Jean de la Roche qui fit hommage au vicomte de Polignac en 1386. On trouve plus tard une famille bourgeoise de ce même nom dont il ne nous a pas été possible d'établir le lien de jonction avec la maison précédente. Elle pourrait être originaire du Puy où l'on trouve: Pierre consul en 1388; Jean de la Roche en 1392 et Pierre en 1435. Etienne bourgeois du Monastier épousa vers 1595 Jeanne de Benoit de Jolivet; Jeanne, leur fille, le 26 novembre 1618, Louis de Veyrac. Isabeau de la Roche, veuve de noble Gabriel Odde de Triors écuyer, seigneur du Crouzet, se remaria en 1586 à Gabriel de Veyrac, écuyer, seigneur de la Valette de Chadron. Marie s'allia à la fin du XVIIème siècle à Pierre Surrel, consul du Monastier, député de cette ville aux Etats du Velay de 1699. Ils fondèrent une chapelle dans l'église du Monastier, où l'on voit encore leurs armoiries accolées. ...
