Nuno Fernandes de Bobadela provinha, por varonia, de Fernão Baveca, contemporâneo de D. Afonso III, casado com Teresa Pires de Vides, filha de Pedro Pires de Vides e de sua mulher, D. Maria Fernandes de Bobadela, a qual lhe levou em casamento algumas fazendas na freguesia de S. Miguel de Bobadela, em Trás-os-Montes. Fernão Nunes de G. tomou o apelido da vila deste nome, na província da Beira, de que seu pai era alcaide, como dizem os genealogistas. Recebeu-se com D. Brites de Melo, filha de Rui Vaz de Melo, senhor de G., e de sua mulher, D. Aldonça de Castro. Este casamento deu origem ás armas que usam os do apelido G.. De Fernão Nunes de G. e de sua mulher, D. Brites de Melo, nasceram filhos, por quem se propagou o apelido. Timbre: uma águia de vermelho estendida, besantada de prata. Estas armas são, como já se disse, as dos apelidos Melo e Castro. ...
