La varonía de la familia y apellido O. procede de los Álvarez de las Asturias-Nava, en la forma que a continuación referimos: Don Pedro Díaz (cuarto hijo de don Diego Rodríguez de Asturias y de su mujer la Infanta doña Ximena, hija del Rey don Alfonso V), fué llamado Pedro Díaz de Aller, por haber vivido en el Concejo de Aller, en el cual era muy poderoso. Ese Concejo pertenece al partido judicial de Pola de Lena, en Asturias. También poseyó muchos bienes, heredados de sus padres, en la provincia de León. Suyo era el castillo de Coyanza con la villa que tenía ese mismo nombre en aquellos tiempos y que hoy se llama Valencia de Don Juan. Cuando comenzó a reinar don Alfonso VII, el Emperador, fué el mencionado don Pedro Díaz uno de los Ricohombres que resistieron a su gobierno, y el Monarca le hizo la guerra para reducirle a su obediencia. Se amparó entonces don Pedro en su castillo de Coyanza, protegido y ayudado por don Pelayo Flórez, defendiéndose valerosamente contra las acometidas de las tropas, superiores en número y en recursos militares, mandadas por don Rodrigo Martínez Osorio, a quien el Rey había encomendado la toma del referido castillo. Tanto estrechó el cerco don Rodrigo, que hubieron de rendirse sus defensores a discreción del Monarca. Don Alfonso VII; llevado de sus bandadosos sentimientos, perdonó a don Pedro y don Pelayo, y aun cuando en un principio confiscó sus bienes, no tardó en restituirselos libremente. ...
